In Search of Monument
The Map of Hyderabad, painted with Irani chai and coffee, is a tribute to the vibrant culture and history of the city. The intricate details of the map are brought to life with the rich, warm hues of tea and coffee, evoking the lively atmosphere of the city’s streets and markets.
As you look at the painting, you can almost smell the delicious aromas wafting from the stalls and cafés and feel the energy of the people going about their daily lives.
S.P. Shoray originally illustrated this map of Hyderabad in 1993 in his book “In the search of monument”. We created this piece using traditional painting techniques and new media art, using tea and coffee as natural pigments to create a truly unique and immersive experience. Illustrated it with a robotic pen and used coffee as ink, Which serves as a flow of the beauty and diversity of Hyderabad and the role that Irani chai plays in bringing people together.
Irani chai has a long and storied history in Hyderabad. Originally brought to the region by Iranian traders and merchants, the aromatic, milky tea quickly became a staple of local cuisine and culture.
Over the years, Irani chai has become closely associated with the city’s cafes and restaurants. These popular gathering places have played a central role in Hyderabad’s social and cultural life, serving as hubs for conversation, debate, and relaxation.
Today, Irani chai remains a beloved part of Hyderabad’s culinary and cultural heritage, enjoyed by people from all walks of life. Whether sipped at a bustling cafe or savoured in the comfort of one’s home, this delicious beverage continues to unite people and nourish the soul.
